Hi, I'm Marco Polo Perez, I'm a junior and I'm currently doing a double major in Writing and in Film and Media Arts at UT. I was born in the Canary Islands, Spain, but I was raised my whole life in Ghana, West Africa. I've studied in the French system since I was a toddler and currently know how to speak four languages and a bit of African creole from Cape Verde, since I lived there for 5 years from 2011 until the summer of 2016. During my last three years of high school, I was specializing in Math, Physics and Biology to enter the Sports Management field, which I somewhat didn't want to pursue, because I was more of a creative person in mind. On my own personal time, I love writing stories, scripts and creating fictional universes. I'm an avid fan of video games and I'm so passionate about their art direction and storytelling techniques. Video games was all I had in between my room walls during COVID, and I t...
This autoscopy is supposed to represent the struggles of my human mind throughout this year. I started off by having body dysmorphia, and I was even finding excuses to not eat as much due to me being a first year commuter. I felt guilty spending my dad's money on food, since I couldn't get a job on campus. I felt like a disgrace to him, even though he's told me not to worry about the money. Because of these damaging thoughts, I self-starved myself at night, not finding a proper balance to take care of myself. I've had multiple intensive palpitations throughout some weeks of the semester due to having constant stress. The clock symbolizes time management, how I've been programmed like a robot by the French system to work, work and work for my classes, thus being one of the most ambitious, hard-working students at The University of Tampa. The dark background is due to a crocodile skin background that I've implemented to the autoscopy to...
Purpose is a completely experimental movie using Adobe Photoshop to edit the frames, and Garage Band to edit the soundtrack and internal monologue. This project was assigned for my digital media class at The University of Tampa under Santiago Echeverry's instructions. In this animation, I first worked on editing the visual style to make it diverse both environmentally and creatively speaking. These numerous videos, which are somewhat intertwined to follow my narrative of exploring a unique or common existential crisis, were a lot of hours of fun and work. I'm finding my purpose. Are you willing to find yours? Are you ready to wake up? Your message is very deep, well done!" "I love it!" "Reminds me of t...
