Blog #1: Who am I?
Hi, I'm Marco Polo Perez, I'm a junior and I'm currently doing a double major in Writing and in Film and Media Arts at UT. I was born in the Canary Islands, Spain, but I was raised my whole life in Ghana, West Africa. I've studied in the French system since I was a toddler and currently know how to speak four languages and a bit of African creole from Cape Verde, since I lived there for 5 years from 2011 until the summer of 2016. During my last three years of high school, I was specializing in Math, Physics and Biology to enter the Sports Management field, which I somewhat didn't want to pursue, because I was more of a creative person in mind.
On my own personal time, I love writing stories, scripts and creating fictional universes. I'm an avid fan of video games and I'm so passionate about their art direction and storytelling techniques. Video games was all I had in between my room walls during COVID, and I thoroughly enjoyed exploring different video game genres during that period and I still enjoy leaving the comfort zone to explore other genres in gaming as of today (like Souls, Role Playing Games, Arcade...). I believe this class will help me get one step closer into the business I would love to write and perform for in the future, since it will guide me into the core of art direction and editing skills through different apps that are unknown to me like Photoshop, Illustrator and so forth. Also, I believe coding will be very helpful as well if I ever end up working for a video game company.
As for the class, I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit worried about the fact that I haven't drawn in a while and I'm not any good at animation, but this is why I'm taking this class, so that I can take a step forward into the right direction. I'm willing to learn, which is why I came to the University of Tampa, and I can't wait to see my evolution as I progress in this class. Looking forward to it!
